Sagittarius I by Ujjwal Debnath (2016)
36 in x 30 in, Acrylic on Canvas

New artwork uploaded....Sagittarius, half human and half horse, is the centaur of mythology, the learned healer whose higher intelligence forms a bridge between earth and Heaven. Also known as the Archer, Sagittarius is represented by the symbol of a bow and arrow. Sagittarius (♐) (Greek: Τοξότης Toxotes, Latin: Sagittarius) is the ninth astrological sign, which is associated with the constellation Sagittarius and spans 240 - 270th degrees of the zodiac. centaur art, mythological figure, figurative painting, dramatic light, oil painting, heroic pose, dark background, strength and power, modern mythology, emotional expression This captivating piece merges mythology and human emotion, portraying a centaur poised in a moment of intense focus. The artist masterfully captures the tension of the drawn bow, inviting viewers to contemplate the balance between man and beast. The interplay of shadow and light creates a dramatic atmosphere, enhancing the subject's muscular form and expressive gaze. This artwork is a striking exploration of inner strength and determination, making it a compelling addition to any collection. The painting features a centaur, a mythical creature with the upper body of a young man and the lower body of a horse. He stands in a dynamic pose, drawing a bow with intention, emphasizing his muscular physique. The background is dark and moody, filled with swirling shadows that contrast with the lighter tones of the centaur's skin and the horse’s coat. A crescent moon peeks from the corner, adding a touch of ethereal light. The texture of the paint is smooth yet rich, conveying a sense of depth and movement throughout the composition. This painting evokes similarities to works by artists like Paul Gauguin and Henri Matisse, who also explored mythical and symbolic themes through vivid colors and expressive forms. The dramatic pose and emotional intensity can be likened to Matisse’s 'The Dance,' where movement and emotion are central, while the color palette reflects the earthy tones often found in Gauguin's works, creating a sense of harmony and narrative depth.

New artwork uploaded....On the first day of the war Krishna became Arjuna's Charioteer between the two armies of The Pandava and the Kaurava on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Lord Krishna revealed the Bhagvad Geeta, consisting of eighteen chapters, on which the Hindu philosophy is based. He preached that "Your duty is to fight. Those who have joined the forces against justice and righteousness have to perish. The good must be protected. Attachment to friends and relatives should not come in the way of your duty."

    Ardhanariswar by Ujjwal Debnath
42 in x 42 in, Oil and arcylic on canvas

New artwork uploaded....Ardhanarishvara (Sanskrit: अर्धनारीश्वर, Ardhanārīśvara) is a composite androgynous form of the Hindu god Shiva and his consort Parvati (also known as Devi, Shakti and Uma in this icon). Ardhanarishvara is depicted as half male and half female, split down the middle. The right half is usually the male Shiva, illustrating his traditional attributes. The earliest Ardhanarishvara images are dated to the Kushan period, starting from the first century CE. Its iconography evolved and was perfected in the Gupta era. The Puranas and various iconographic treatises write about the mythology and iconography of Ardhanarishvara. While Ardhanarishvara remains a popular iconographic form found in most Shiva temples throughout India, very few temples are dedicated to this deity. Ardhanarishvara represents the synthesis of masculine and feminine energies of the universe (Purusha and Prakriti) and illustrates how Shakti, the female principle of God, is inseparable from (or the same as, according to some interpretations) Shiva, the male principle of God. The union of these principles is exalted as the root and womb of all creation. Another view is that Ardhanarishvara is a symbol of Shiva's all-pervasive nature. [Source -Wikipedia]
