Artist
Born in 1936 in East Bengal, Ganesh Haloi migrated to Kolkata & made it his home. Haloi is a master in the art of the abstract, and his style is intellectual & introspective, with the underlying philosophy of resilience and a tranquil acceptance. His compositions are a superior blend of design & craftsmanship, which explore the depths of an inner psyche. A master craftsman, his construction of trees, houses, palaces etc are infused with strength and character. Some of his unforgettable work includes nature-scapes painted on rice paper. Haloi has won several awards and felicitations, including the Late R N Chakraborty Memorial Gold Medal from the Govt. College of Art, Kolkata in 1956, 7 Silver Medals from Kolkata University & several Gold Medals from the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata.
